British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group, has become the first UK gypsum-based plastering and drylining manufacturer to be awarded a BES 6001 ‘very good’ rating for a core range of its products and solutions.

The certification, which applies to all British Gypsum UK-manufactured Gyproc Plasterboard, Glasroc Specialist Boards, and Thistle Plasters and Cove solutions, will now enable customers to receive more points and credits for these products as part of BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method for buildings) and the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH).

BES 6001 is an independent audited standard from Building Research Establishment (BRE) which assesses the responsible sourcing of construction products within an organisation’s supply chain.

“With sustainability a key driver for almost every building project, construction professionals are under greater pressure to demonstrate sustainable practices and procurement,” said Brian Andreas, Sustainability Leader at British Gypsum. “As such, it’s critical that manufacturers are doing all they can to support customers in making it easier and more cost effective to achieve required standards.

“Following this certification for example, our certified solutions are now Tier Three for BREEAM 2011, as opposed to Tier Six in the past, meaning it’s now easier to achieve a higher number of credits, at no additional cost. Similarly, for CSH, a wider range of our products are now Tier One.”
