Plans for a new website that will help specialist contractors identify the most appropriate training and then manage qualification of skilled labour have been revealed by FIS.

The new site will be known as CourseBank and is being developed in response to recommendations made in the 2014 Stockerl Report. The new web portal will improve awareness and understanding of careers, training provision and grant offers in the finishes and interiors sector.

CourseBank will help FIS members to source funding, book the most appropriate training course and upload qualifications onto the successful trainee’s CSCS card to maintain an up-to-date digital training record.

FIS wants to significantly increase the number of operatives in the interiors sector that are adequately qualified to NVQ Level 2 and hold a related skilled worker CSCS card by 2020. It is hoped this new initiative will give a much-needed boost to training in the sector.

Commenting on the importance of promoting the use of technology within the CSCS card scheme, David Frise, FIS chief executive, said: “The more evidence that can be reliably supplied on-site the better. This type of technology really helps us to be at the forefront of developing a solid reputation for a skilled workforce.”
