The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)  has finally unveiled changes to Part L of the building regulations.

Despite earlier government commitments that they would be introduced in October 2013 the revised regulation will not come into effect until April 2014.

Under proposals announced today new build homes will have to be six per cent more efficient than under current regulations, two per cent below the eight per cent target set out in the  government’s original proposals to tighten carbon emission standards.

The changes will introduce an uplift in efficiency standards of nine per cent for non-domestic buildings, lower than the 20% improvement proposed in the consultation which closed in April 2012.
