In the plan he is calling on investment of £1.4bn from Central Government that will unlock £8.8bn worth of projects that can begin in the next 12-months in the Liverpool City Region. He estimates that projects will create 94k jobs, a further 28k construction jobs, and secure employment for 26k people who are not in work. We will also unlock the development of 19k new homes, retrofit a further 6.5k homes and bring forward 562k sqm of new commercial and retail floorspace.
Of the nearly 40 programmes and projects outlined in the plan, Mr Rotherham claims that each is capable of launching within 12 months (and some within 12 weeks) and producing outputs in no more than three years. Underpinning everything is a commitment to build back better with a series of actions and commitments that will apply to all projects.
FIS reported on the findings of Barbour ABI this week that identifies that the North West currently accounts for around 14% of all contract awards, but this is heavily led by residential projects that accounted for nearly a third of all National Awards.
