An overview of the product
Speed cutter is a new solution to reduce the time, cost and skills required to fit fire resistant penetration to Dry Lined walling.

Current there is a three step process to fit a penetration 1). The Dry liner fits an ‘letter box’ in the existing structure 2) the services team then fits the required pipework or cable etc, 3) the penetration then requires fire stopping by a fire stopping expert. These three steps require several site visits and coordination between several agents.

Speed Cutter can be easily fitted by any of the above trades and provides an initial and future penetration.

Timed installs show that a full penetration, including mechanical fixing can be fitted in less than two minutes.

The cost of the product will be significantly below current estimates for traditional methods with significantly less management costs and complexity.

How the new product was developed, including effective collaboration, knowledge transfer and partnership along the project team
The product was invented and patented sometime. Fire Stop Products (FSP) then engaged with the IP owner to look at how the product could be developed and made ready for market.

FSP took the original design and made significant amendments working with the product owner and various manufacturing partners to develop a product that could be manufactured in significant volumes and provide an ongoing market ready solution.

We continue to work with our partners to make changes and improvements as we ready the launch.

How might this product have an influence on the specification
If specified Speed Cutter will significantly reduce the time, cost and complexity of installation fire resistant penetrations. This is expected to be both a first and second fix product.

How the product improved productivity in the process and/or quality and performance of the interior system
Current methods to install fire resistant penetrations involved several agents and skill and require significant coordination of different companies. Speed Cutter can be fitted with limited skills in less than 2 minutes.

Many cutters can be used at different locations and can be used and first fit or during the life of the building as requirements change.
