Provide an overview of the product
The Teg Clip is a clip that will be widely used in the suspended ceiling installation of the construction industry. The Clip is made from mild steel powder coated and will have a fire certification A1 classification for up to 60mins. It is designed as a clip to provide an infill support at the perimeter junction creating a seated upstand for the T bar to sit on. It will allow the tegular edge of a ceiling tile to sit as intended thus by taking away two thirds of the labour element which will give the same method the traditional way. The traditional way of fitting ceiling tiles to perimeters are to re-form the rebate edge which is 1 x cut to get your tile size and 2 x cut to create the manual rebate. The clip takes away the 2 x cut to create the rebate which speeds up installation process. As illustrated.
How the new product was developed, including effective collaboration, knowledge transfer and partnership along the project team
The idea was thought of long before I went looking for a design team to share my theory. I would regularly automatically revisit my theory within myself over the period of time from my first thoughts up to looking into the build design. One winter morning in February 2023 I was waiting for a construction site to open in Kingston Upon Themes and the theory came back to me which prompted me to do research on my mobile phone. The research results came back with a company called Simple Design Works. I telephoned the company and explained I had an idea and there website indicated what I had in my head. The Lady was very prompt and explained I had to keep the idea to myself personally and she would send out some forms for me to fill in which was continentality and allowed them to look into my idea and them share there thoughts about the idea.
The was then a Teams call organised with the Owner Kristo of Simple Design works to go through my thoughts.
Leading up to the call I made a cardboard creation of what my intension was.
All the way leading up to the Teams call my head was split 50/50, Half saying it’s a daft idea and the other half saying if I don’t do it I will live never knowing. On the day of the call I was sitting in my van on Site, had my iPad set up, I was unable to get on the call with a mobile connection failure. Finally connecting to Kristo his response was a great big yes, he liked it.
This kind of made me feel comfortable about my idea however I never and still have never jumped to conclusions. Take it as an every day process even now.
Over the following months from February to October Simpe Design came on board and worked with me creating the idea there was several Teams discussions regarding the design, its intended use & visual aspects on completion.
In October 2023 we signed of the product and appointed a manufacturer to produce the clip.
The clip has now got a Patent application pending, we have also had the name Teg Clip trade mark registration accepted.
How might this product have an influence on the specification
The labour saving technic of the clip and the overhaul visual aspect of the clip has a big influence on a specification. The idea of the clip holds its self within the grid system by clipping on to the grid preventing from detaching also is a big influence on specification.
How the product improved productivity in the process and/or quality and performance of the interior system
The clip improves productivity by reducing the labour time of the perimeter cutting of ceiling tiles from a 3 stage application to a 1 stage application. The quality of the clip when the ceiling is complete gives a very good quality professional finish look. It also has a after care visual aspect as the ceiling tile will re-sit after maintenance, The traditional method ceiling tiles don’t resit properly and there edges break up.
