A new collaboration between Garden Office Pod 4U (GOP4U), a bespoke garden pod designer, and Latham Timber Manufacturing (LTM), James Latham’s dedicated moulding and cladding manufacturing division, has resulted in the creation of an eco-friendly garden office, featuring a bespoke Chesapeake colourway.

It all started when Peter Howson, a London-based product designer and longstanding James Latham customer, sought a durable, functional, and visually appealing timber to clad a new pod design. However, as discussions progressed, it became clear Peter needed more than just the raw materials. In fact, he required a standardised, plug-and-play system that was easy to install, low maintenance, and scalable according to demand.

Recognising this, James Latham suggesting a complete system package developed and delivered by its specialist cladding arm, LTM, keeping the supply chain small.

Not only is it a partnership that showcases Accoya timber at its best, but it also highlights the amazing results that can be achieved through close collaboration and pooled expertise.

Let’s take a closer look at this remarkable project.

Manufactured for stability and longevity

Although several different solid and engineered timber options had been considered, Howson ultimately chose Accoya for its impressive resilience and structural stability.

A streamlined cladding system, designed for scale

As the project progressed, it became clear Peter also needed a fully integrated cladding system, which is where LTM came in, on James Latham’s recommendation. Its expert team worked hand-in-glove with GOP4U, refining the final specification to manufacture a tailored solution that met exact requirements.

The result? A bespoke, pre-finished, elegantly designed modular cladding using LTAC04 and 15 x 145 RR profiles, one that complements and enhances its surroundings.

It also comes factory finished in a wide selection of finishes to match almost any garden design, including Chesapeake – a custom colour option from the Sansin range, created specifically for this project. This tailored approach allowed GOP4U to work closely with LTM to perfectly match the client’s aesthetic, demonstrating how custom finishes can elevate the overall design. Other available options include Autumn Gold and Pearl Grey. Each pod is finished with a brushed or sanded technique, delivering a sophisticated, natural look that blends seamlessly into outdoor settings. Additional finishes, including Sansin SDF and Woodforce Clear, provide another layer of weather protection, ensuring longevity even in the harshest conditions.

From a practical perspective, delivering pre-finished Accoya components directly to the manufacturer for modular assembly, installation became faster and maintenance easier without compromising quality.

Adding value throughout the construction journey

LTM’s involvement didn’t end at the factory gates, demonstrating its commitment to establishing ongoing relationships and providing an unrivalled customer experience. It played a key role in the first installation, providing hands-on technical guidance and supply-chain coordination.

Reflecting on the journey, Peter says, “This collaboration was about solving the problems of delivery style, strength, and sustainability. Working with James Latham and LTM has taken my designs to the next level, creating something that will deliver extra, long-term value to clients. Their expertise, support, and high-quality materials have been instrumental in bringing this project to life.”

Michael O’Brien from LTM says, “Accoya is an exceptional material, especially when treated with our factory finish, and its use on this project really makes a compelling case for timber cladding. Knowing that the materials we supplied will help these structures to stand the test of time, while also meeting sustainability goals, is something we’re very proud of.”
