Scottish contractor Clansman Interiors is celebrating 30 years in business, marking three decades of delivering commercial fit-outs, refurbishments and interior solutions across Scotland and the wider UK.
Founded in 1996 by Hugh Rattray and George Laurence, with Ken Swindell joining shortly afterwards, the company began as a commercial and industrial interiors contractor focused on delivering practical, high-quality solutions. Since then, Clansman has grown into an established principal contractor, providing services including commercial fit-outs, refurbishments, partitioning, suspended ceilings, washroom upgrades, bespoke joinery, hygienic wall cladding and furniture installations.
The business remains proudly family-owned, with the second generation now helping to lead the company. Alasdair Rattray serves as Contracts Director, David Rattray as Sales Director, and Lisa Marr as Director and Company Secretary, continuing the founders’ commitment to quality, service and long-term client relationships.
Over the past three decades, the commercial interiors sector has undergone significant change. Modern workplaces are designed to support collaboration, wellbeing, flexibility and technology, with hybrid working driving demand for adaptable layouts, breakout spaces and improved acoustic performance. Sustainability has also become a key consideration, with organisations looking for durable, low-waste solutions that provide lasting value.
Despite these changes, Clansman says its core principles have remained the same. Quality workmanship, attention to detail, honest advice and dependable project delivery continue to underpin every project, whether in occupied offices, education settings, healthcare facilities, retail environments or industrial spaces.
The company credits much of its success to its people, long-standing clients and trusted supply chain partners. Over the years, Clansman has delivered projects across a diverse range of sectors, building strong relationships that, in many cases, have lasted for decades.
Reflecting on the milestone, the company said: “Our aim has always been simple: to deliver quality work, look after our clients and build relationships that last. Thirty years on, those values are still what drive the business every day.”
Looking ahead, Clansman Interiors plans to continue evolving alongside the industry while staying true to the family-business values that have guided its growth since 1996. With continued investment in people, skills and partnerships, the company remains focused on supporting clients with modern commercial interior solutions for years to come.
