Lewisham Southwark College is delivering a British Gypsum-sponsored drylining/plastering training and employment programme in collaboration with Barratt London and Stanmore Contractors.
This programme, being run at The Bridge – the new Pre-employment Construction Academy for Lewisham Southwark College – helps address the serious skills shortage in London. It is designed to introduce young people to the built environment and support them in obtaining relevant skills to gain employment in the construction industry.
Programme participants receive one week’s theoretical study, one week’s practical training and two weeks’ intense training on a live construction site.
All candidates will be offered an interview, and successful candidates will receive a probation period and progress into a drylining workforce development programme/framework for 12–24 months. So far, five learners have been offered employment and training contracts with Stanmore’s on Barratt London construction sites.
