British Gypsum has confirmed that Thistle MultiFinish has been tested for spray application through specific spray machines, giving plasterers greater flexibility in how they apply the product.

Thistle MultiFinish itself has not changed. It’s the same formulation and has the same performance characteristics. Spray application gives plasterers another way to get Thistle MultiFinish onto the wall and ceiling, offering greater flexibility across different project sizes and working styles.

However, British Gypsum is clear that spraying does not replace traditional plastering skills. The spray is simply a method of getting the material onto the surface. The quality of the finish still depends on the plasterer’s trowel work and experience.

“This isn’t about changing the craft,” says Ashley Wright, Head of Plaster & Finish, British Gypsum. “It’s about responding to how the trade is evolving. We’ve seen growing interest in spray application, so it was important for us to properly test Thistle MultiFinish through spray machines and give plasterers confidence in how it can be used. The plaster hasn’t changed – the skill still matters. Spray just offers another way of working with Thistle MultiFinish.”

Thistle MultiFinish has been tested for spray application onto plasterboard using specific machines, including the Agrekom Spray Plaster Unit, Predator Pro Spray Plus, TurboMax TX770 and the Kosner MK20. British Gypsum notes that other machines may also be capable of spraying Thistle MultiFinish and advises other machines may be added to the list in future. Customers are advised to consult machine manufacturers before making their own purchasing decision.

British Gypsum is not supplying spray machines and does not take responsibility for machine selection, setup, operation or maintenance. Responsibility for machine performance lies with the machine manufacturers.

The company has highlighted that spray application is particularly suited to certain types of work. Mid-sized to larger projects – such as jobs requiring multiple bags of plaster over wider wall areas – may benefit most from spray application, while still allowing plasterers to apply a traditional hand-finished surface.

Alongside confirming spray compatibility, British Gypsum is encouraging plasterers to explore the technique before adopting it on-site. Support is available through demonstration events, roadshows and practical how-to online resources designed to help tradespeople build confidence and understand best practice.

“We know plasterers want to see things working in real conditions,” adds Ashley “That’s why we’re encouraging people to watch the demonstrations, attend events and try it for themselves. Spray application is about supporting plasterers – helping them work in ways that suit their jobs, their teams and their bodies – while still delivering the finish their customers expect.”

As part of the wider spray programme, British Gypsum also approves Thistle BoardFinish and ThistlePro PureFinish for spray application through the same specific machines as Thistle MultiFinish.

Plasterers can access further information about spraying Thistle MultiFinish, watch how-to videos and find upcoming demonstration opportunities via British Gypsum’s website.

Product Summary

Thistle MultiFinish is a finishing plaster from British Gypsum, designed for use on a wide range of backgrounds.
