BW, the interior fit-out specialists, has achieved a Gold SKA Rating for the interior fit out of its new office at 5 Old Bailey.

The office was designed by KKS and managed by BW. BW is evolving into a new breed of Fit Out Contractor that understands the importance of design and sustainability, as much as they appreciate precision joinery and detail finishes. SKA rating is an environmental assessment method, benchmark and standard for non-domestic fit outs, led and owned by RICS. Its overall objective is to help landlords and tenants assess fit out projects against a set of sustainability good practice criteria.

SKA rating is ranked in three thresholds: Bronze, Silver and Gold, reached by achieving 25%, 50% and 75% respectively, of the measures in scope. The rigorous system called for BW to go through three stages of assessment:

  • Design/Planning. To identify the scope of design, cost, programme and benefit.
  • Delivery/Construction. Gathering of evidence from O&M manuals and other
sources to prove that what has been specified has actually been delivered, and that
the performance and waste benchmarks have been achieved.
  • Occupancy Stage Assessment. The review of how well a fit out has performed in
use against its original brief from a year after completion.

Steve Elliott, CEO of BW says: “We are all delighted to receive this accolade. It is so important that we can actively demonstrate how dedicated we are as a company to achieving the highest of
standards for ourselves, as well as our clients. I hope this serves as another example of our capabilities and the committed professional team at BW that set the benchmark a little higher for the whole industry.
