Following the Chancellor’s announcement of record investment into upskilling and training, Sean Kearns, Chief Executive of the Constructions Skills Certification Scheme said: “We welcome the Chancellor’s announcement of £1.2bn for training and upskilling, with £625 million for construction skills, as well as commitments for additional funding for affordable homes and national infrastructure.

“The construction industry workforce is currently facing a cliff edge. This investment in skills is urgently needed for Government to meet its ambitious targets to build the new homes, schools, prisons and other infrastructure the nation sorely needs.

“At CSCS, we stand ready to continue our vital role raising standards and safety across our industry by ensuring all workers have the correct skills, training and qualifications for the role they are employed to do. We look forward to working with partners across the industry, from contractors to training providers, as they train up the next generation of construction workers and use this investment to create a safer, smarter and more skilled sector.”
