GYC recently supported Rooff on the delivery of Causeway End in Little Dunmow, Essex, a carefully considered residential development comprising four homes and designed by Sergison Bates Architects.
Delivered by Rooff as both client and main contractor, the scheme demonstrates how traditional building forms and material choices can achieve modern environmental performance through fabric-first design and careful detailing.
The development incorporated lime plaster to all internal walls, while the external monolithic wall construction utilised Juwo clay blocks to support long-term thermal performance, durability and breathability. The final coat of lime render, Lime Green Solo, was finished with a light vertical brush texture and smooth floated detailing around openings, contributing to the architectural quality of the scheme.
GYC delivered the internal package, with Barry Boswell overseeing works on site. As with many specification-led projects, successful delivery relied on close coordination between design intent, material performance and workmanship to ensure quality was maintained throughout.
The recent CIOB site visit offered an opportunity for industry professionals to explore the project in detail, gaining insight into the materials, methods and sustainability principles shaping a development that successfully bridges traditional construction approaches with modern environmental expectations.
