Fuji acoustic ceiling tiles
Innovation overview and development
An overview of the product
As a 3D acoustic ceiling tile, Fuji helps manage sound reverberation in a beautiful display of form and colour. In multiple sizes, colourways and componentry finishes, Fuji is Woven Image’s latest sustainably made innovation transforming the ceilings of commercial interior spaces.
How the new product was developed, including effective collaboration, knowledge transfer and partnership along the project team
Our design team wanted to create a 3D tile that was organic in form, decorative, delivered high acoustic performance and met our stringent environmental criteria for product development. Fuji’s design is inspired by modern japonsime alongside art deco trends, and features the reinterpreted linework from our hero embossed acoustic panel, Zen. It was also imperative that this new solution could utilise existing hardware in the collection and was compatible with off-the-shelf lighting solutions. Fuji is formed using once obsolete machinery, reconditioned by Woven Image over the course of one-and-a-half-years, requiring continuous collaboration between our design, engineering, and production teams.
How might this product have an influence on the specification
The design trend towards exposed ceilings in commercial spaces, like workplace, has meant much more demand for acoustic ceiling finishes that enhance the space aesthetically as well as functionally.
Fuji’s unique shape delivers maximum acoustic benefits while its design coordinates with other colours and finishes in the Woven Image range. Tiles come in three sizes (Fuji Roku, Juni & Ku). Roku & Juni can be configured together for truly bespoke installations. The range is available in 4 standard colourways, including unique dual-coloured options. Installation is quick and easy. Tiles are attached using custom designed barrel kits that mimic the linework design, with a textured surface that also delivers a functional easy to grip install benefit.
With sustainability rightly driving specifications in the built environment, Fuji tiles comprised of 64% recycled PET content, helping to divert single-use plastic bottles away from waterways and landfills. Since 2004, Woven Image have recycled 5820 tonnes of PET plastic to make our acoustic finishes, that is the equivalent of 291 million 600ml plastic drinks bottles. Fuji is manufactured in our production facility utilising solar energy, and has a host of environmental certifications, including Global GreenTag GreenRATE level A and a Platinum Product Health Declaration. Fuji has ingredient transparency through Declare, is RedList free and has very low VOC emission, ensuring the product considers the environment and the health of building occupants.
Fuji has been fire and acoustically tested in accordance with global standards, ISO and ASTM.
How the product improved productivity in the process and/or quality and performance of the interior system
Fuji assists in the delivery of acoustic comfort, which is known to be an important consideration in workplace productivity, especially as the demand for collaborative spaces in offices increases.
As a 3D product with suspension capabilities, the best indication of Fuji’s acoustic performance, are by its equivalent Absorption Area indices measured in Sabin’s. Sabin performance show Fuji’s exceptional ability in absorbing mid-high frequencies sounds, making it perfect for office environments where conversation, typing, clicking and music all pervade.
Fuji delivers its highest acoustic performance as a suspended installation. A simple drop from the ceiling creates an air gap above the product which significantly increases its sound absorption potential. This gap, with the top and bottom of the product exposed, provides around 30-40% better acoustic absorption than when directly fixed to a substrate. Fuji achieves an impressive Weighted Alpha (αw) rating of 0.70 which, as a measure, is the best representation of how the human ear perceives sound. Making it the most reliable and trusted acoustic performance measure available. Full acoustic performance information can be downloaded from www.wovenimage.com
Fuji’s many uses range from a small-scale suspended installation over a conference table, to full wall-to-wall ceiling applications. Fuji not only contributes to the acoustic comfort of a range of commercial spaces in the workplace, education and hospitality sectors, but also delivers beautiful shape, form and colour.
