Terrix Internal Plaster and Paint Systems
Innovation overview and development
An overview of the product
Terrix® Internal polymer-silicate spray plaster and paint systems deliver real value when applied together. The system is designed to significantly reduce the application time and efficiency on site offering a significant reduction in planned application times, speeding up the build process. This is a high spec product, delivering sustainable green solutions for new builds and restoration properties leaving interiors protected and visually stunning, flattest finishes once applied, far outlasting any other materials.
The system gives the highest quality parameters unachievable by traditional materials available on the market, at the same time maintaining a very competitive price. Intended for use as a finishing/decorating package for any scrim tape and joined plasterboard systems, and it will replace any skim coat systems and traditional emulsion paint finishes. The entire application process is very clean and does not require water .
The system comprises of:
TERRIX® PL-SX-S plaster coat
TERRIX® IP-ST-P dispersion-silicate premium paint
Terrix® Pl-SX-S is a ready-to-use plaster coat for machine application of interior walls and ceilings. For final levelling and smoothening of surfaces before painting. Its white colour and smooth surface allow for a reduction in the number of coats necessary to obtain a full decorative effect. When set and hardened, very easy for sanding. Suitable for use on all mineral surfaces (such as concrete, cement, limestone, lime and gypsum plasters and plaster boards). Due to its chemical formulation, the product dries even when higher relative humidity levels occur.
Terrix®IP-ST-P paint is based on innovative Swiss technology combining a silicate and dispersive binding agents. Due to its vapour permeable characteristic, it does not change the retentive properties of a substrate (walls naturally receive and give off moisture). In “wet rooms” (such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements) the excess of moisture in the air may be easily reduced. The paint is especially recommended for rooms with very high levels of humidity. Another important property of the paint is its resistance to microbial contamination (e.g. black mould). Its very high Ph level offers natural and far better protection than other systems. Due to its mineral characteristics and lack of surface electrostatics, Terrix®IP-ST-P paint is more resistant to dirt than most other products on the market.
Peeling and cracking is widely accepted with all popular paints Terrix®IP-ST-P will never peel ordelaminate as it is adhered to a substrate by a chemical reaction. In addition it is extremely resistant to “wet washing” and scrubbing.
How the new product was developed, including effective collaboration, knowledge transfer and partnership along the project team
In 2018 F&T Terrix signed the agreement to become the official importer of all products in the Terrix range. Terrix is gaining a reputation for offering high-quality, innovative materials, in the construction, housing, commercial and NHS, and healthcare sector, and naturally being the best solution for heritage properties in the UK on a number of projects.
The renovation market is governed by different laws than those we know in the case of commercial investments. Repairs and renovations of listed buildings are carried out under supervision and taking into account that it has to last for decades rather than years. PCC decided to use its experience in the renovation of historic buildings and monuments and tailor this for the commercial market.
The commercial market accepts that the facades and internal walls must be refreshed every few years. Terrix’s most significant innovation was the introduction of polymer silicates to the market. Thanks to this, the commercial and residential markets gained access to previously available solutions for the historical sector. The unique properties of polymer-silicate have allowed us to develop repair/maintenance methods that are many times simpler and cheaper than competing systems. The maintenance costs of buildings with Terrix products are significantly lower.
We have simplified the installation and application process so that it is safe for contractors’ health. When applying Terrix PL-SX-S, water consumption is reduced by 95% vs traditional skim coats. Power consumption can be reduced by as much as 50%.
The application of Terrix products and systems requires fewer employees, which translates directly to increased workplace safety. So far, the work that has to be performed by 12 people. In the case of Terrix is performed by only 4. F&T Terrix have a strong emphasis on training and all applicators are trained to become official spray applicators of Terrix products we conduct training on and off site in our training facility. On top of the training we provide full technical support on the products throughout the build process. We offer upskilling or new skills programs free of charge and companies receive a user accreditation certificate for both company and individual. FT Terrix share our applicator list offering potential new revenue streams where projects are applying Terrix .
How might this product have an influence on the specification
Our company ethos is to eradicate the use of poor-quality paint that appears drab with evidence of cracking, peeling, damp, ness and loss of colour on major sites. The benefits this system delivers are superior to anything on the market, this is a win for the client, the subcontractor, and the end user.
The new building safety act remonstrates the requirement for CAT A flame retardant paints, and plaster, and these two are CAT A which naturally deliver that standard.
Working in collaboration with applicators this system provides a fast and efficient application with superior qualities against costly competitor products.
Main properties:
Ready to use no mixing on site, just whisk and start using
Reduced project times due to the speed of application.
Up to 500m2 / man/day and in some even 700s/m.
The smooth clean white finish of the plaster coat, tricks the eye into looking like a finished paint coat and then the paint coat is the quality bright white finish
Application in one coat for both systems.
No paint mist coat or second coat is required.
No flashing means no extensive repainting.
It can easily be patched and repaired in small areas. A free airless gun per project means you can spot repair without extensive snagging costs.
Can be painted onto Woodwork delivering an undercoat or complete finish. This also reduces the preparation times and no high bond protection tape is required due to the no delamination.
High resistance to hand scrubbing, easy cleaning.
Minimal waste and a far cleaner project compared to traditional methods.
Chemical bonding means no flaking or cracking.
Fully protective against fungus and black mould.
Fully vapour permeable, breathable system.
Full training and technical support is provided.
How the product improved productivity in the process and/or quality and performance of the interior system
The dual application of Terrix Polymer spray plaster and paint system on the New Victoria project for VINICI Construction in Manchester. Is an fantastic example of the increased productivity this system provides.
The £130m residential Development ‘New Victoria’ comprises of 520 apartments across two towers of 20 and 25 storeys, with a scheduled completion date in 2024.
The VINCI team have chosen to use the Terrix plaster and paint system over other highly respected popular brands due to the quality of finish, speed of application and simplicity of using the products, this decision demonstrates the forward thinking, progressive and lean thinking of the VINCI and client team working on the development.
We collaborated early with the project team to outline the benefits the dual system can bring to the overall efficiency of the site. Outlining the benefits as noted above.
This site is a high-profile project on a prominent site in Manchester city centre and will significantly increase Terrix’s profile in the market.
Working in collaboration with the onsite Plaster team JCS and Smiths Painters we have provided on site training and technical support, attend meetings when required and have a dedicated project manager for the site to deal with any technical questions that may arise and to ensure the smooth distribution of the products. The efficiency and superior finish is evident as this project nears its final fit out stages. The clients and investors have been thrilled with the end results and the onsite project team cannot praise the systems and application techniques enough, as the video highlights.
