An overview of the product

The VERTO VT 845 is a fully concealed self-closing pivot hinge for single action aluminium framed doors in a rebated frame.
The system has two parts. The VT 845E10 is a concealed hydraulic floor hinge with adjustable closing speed and constant braking control. The VT 845E20 is the top hinge, with a retractable pin so the door leaf can be fitted and removed without touching the frame. The system is supplied to partitioning manufacturers for integration into their aluminium framed door systems.
Minimum overall dimensions are 25 x 25 mm. The complete door control package sits inside the door and frame profile. There is no floor box, no transom closer and no visible hardware. The door opens to 180 degrees with a hold point at 90 degrees. Height adjustment of plus or minus 3 mm is made on site. The operating range is -15°C to +40°C, so sheltered external and unconditioned spaces are within scope. The VT 845 is intended for non fire rated doors.
The VT 845 is not a variation on the range. It is an innovation. It is the first VERTO hinge fully concealed within a rebated aluminium profile, giving framed glazed doors automatic controlled closing without a single visible device.

How the new product was developed, including effective collaboration, knowledge transfer and partnership along the project team

The VT 845 is a SIMONSWERK GROUP development and brings together two capabilities from within the group. SIMONSWERK has more than a century of hinge system expertise and leads the concealed hinge market through the TECTUS range. Colcom, the Italian glass hardware specialist acquired by SIMONSWERK, contributes the hydraulic self-closing technology proven across the VERTO range.
Development drew on both teams. The VT 845 applies Colcom’s proven hydraulic closing technology, with its guaranteed closing characteristics, to a new door format: the aluminium framed rebated door at the heart of glazed partitioning. Housing the complete closing function within minimum dimensions of 25 x 25 mm allows it to sit fully concealed inside the door and frame profile. No VERTO hinge had achieved this before.
Those compact dimensions were designed with partitioning manufacturers in mind. At 25 x 25 mm, the hinge can be accommodated within the slim aluminium profiles that define contemporary glazed partitioning, supported by full fitting instructions and technical documentation. Handed left and right versions cover both door orientations from the standard range.
UK market knowledge shaped the launch, drawn from specifiers, fit-out contractors and the architectural ironmongery sector. The product has already been shortlisted for the GAI Specification Awards 2026 in the Mechanical Product Design and Innovation category.

How might this product have an influence on the specification

A self-closing door in a glazed partition has meant a visible compromise. A surface-mounted closer, a transom device, or a floor spring with a cement box and a cover plate in the finished floor. Every option interrupted the clean lines that made the client choose glazed partitioning in the first place.
The VT 845 removes that compromise. Specifiers can write automatic controlled closing into a scheme with nothing on show. We expect this to change specifications in three ways. Self-closing performance becomes a realistic default for meeting rooms, quiet rooms and corridor doors rather than a reluctant trade-off. The floor build-up is freed from the floor spring box, which simplifies coordination between partition, flooring and services at design stage. And because the hinge is compact enough to sit within slim aluminium door profiles, partitioning manufacturers can offer self-closing doors without compromising the sightlines of their systems.
Refurbishment now makes up over half of the UK office development pipeline, and hybrid working is turning open floors into meeting rooms and pods. The number of partition doors needing controlled closing is rising. The VT 845 lets specifiers meet that need invisibly, on non fire rated doors.

How the product improved productivity in the process and/or quality and performance of the interior system

For the partitioning manufacturer and installing contractor, the biggest gain is what is no longer there. A traditional floor spring needs a box cut into the screed, coordination with the flooring contractor and making good around a cover plate. The VT 845E10 sits within the profile. Partition and door go in as one package.
The retractable pin on the top hinge matters on site. Fit-out projects change late. Leaves get damaged, layouts move, tenants re-plan. With the VT 845 a leaf lifts out and a replacement goes in without dismantling the frame. A leaf swap takes minutes, not a strip-down.
Quality in service is protected by adjustment on site. Closing speed and 3 mm of height adjustment mean the door can be tuned after installation, as gaskets compress and the building settles. Fewer callbacks, less snagging.
The finished system gains a cleaner floor detail, faster door installation, easier aftercare and a guaranteed closing action, with nothing visible to spoil the partition.
