Mayplas’ two-sided, foil faced thermal and acoustic slab is now classified as a ‘limited combustibility’ product following testing for Reaction to Fire A2-s1, d0 according to BS EN 13501-1.

As a result, the renamed Mayplas Thermafire A2 Foil Faced Slab can be used where Reaction to Fire is important as well as acoustic and thermal functions. The slab supports performance reducing thermal bridging and the passage of sound. So, it is particularly suitable for insulated spandrel panel locations within glazed curtain wall systems, says Mayplas.  However, it also has a myriad of other applications.

The Thermafire A2 Foil Faced Slab is available in a range of thicknesses (50mm to 250mm) to permit design of thermal performance to suit the construction and meet thermal Building Regulation requirements such as Approved Document L for England & Wales and the Scottish Technical Handbooks.

A choice of slab densities (nominally 33, 45, 60, 80 and 100kg/m³) allows the customer a wide choice to match their design specification.

“In insulated glazed spandrel zones, insulation of limited combustibility is required. That is, it must meet a minimum of Reaction to Fire A2-s1, d0 according to BS EN 13501-1,” explains Michael Hunter, Mayplas’ Technical Director.  “Insulated glazed spandrel panels need an insulation product that does not add to the fire load, if a fire occurs in that zone. Our Thermafire A2 Foil Faced Slab reduces that risk.”

Thermafire A2 Foil Faced Slabs can be integrated into new and retrofit glazed spandrel panel systems.

Other applications can include integration onto metal, such as in ceiling grids; mechanically fixed against timber, such as in roof eaves; be free standing in cavities, such as internal partitions and ceiling voids; with plasterboard; with A1/A2 facing boards; and with concrete, for example in lift shafts. Please refer to Mayplas datasheet for further details.

The two-sided Thermafire A2 Foil Faced Slab is supplied at 1200mm x 600mm and can be cut to size on site.  Bespoke sizes are available for project specific designs to minimise generation of waste on site.
