Article 2 of the Construction Productivity Taskforce’s Design for Construction Productivity series is now live.
The paper is called Overcoming the Fractured Design Process looks at a challenge that begins long before construction reaches site.
The paper identifies four recurring points where the process can fracture:
- Fragmented project set-up
- Discontinuous information management
- Late specialist involvement
- Poor handover and feedback loops
It explores how fragmentation across design can impact productivity and how greater continuity, collaboration and earlier integration of expertise can lead to better outcomes through design and delivery.
Building on Article 1 – The Case for Change, this second paper moves the conversation into one of the practical challenges the industry needs to address if we are serious about improving construction productivity.
Developed through cross-industry collaboration, the series brings together insight from across design, construction and delivery, with eight further papers still to come.
