There is now a free, easy-to-use tool available online from Kingspan Insulation for calculating U-values. The mobile- and desktop-friendly calculator, available at www.uvalue-calculator.co.uk, is packed with 6,000 calculations for pitched and flat roofs, walls and floors. Users are not required to register to use the calculator.
Kingspan’s calculator, which is the first to feature calculations approved under the BBA/TIMSA competency scheme, walks users through a series of quick questions about the specification. If required, a simple click on the question mark icon will bring up a tooltip box containing plain English advice.
When finished, the calculator will instantly provide a recommended insulation solution and thickness, along with the resulting U-value. The information can then be emailed to the user and a PDF format of the full calculation is also available.
To ensure accuracy, all U-values within the tool have been pre-calculated by a member of Kingspan Insulation’s technical services department, which is approved under the BBA/TIMSA Scheme for Calculation Competency Part 1 – U-value and condensation risk.
