The Mayor’s Inclusive Talent Strategy commits to putting employers in the driving seat of London’s skills and employment system, ensuring training can meet the needs of business and grow our economy. To deliver on this, City Hall is establishing new Sector Talent Boards across priority growth sectors, with each board comprising of employers and industry stakeholders. This will bring together leaders from organisations with the sector credibility, insight and influence to provide strategic leadership on skills and workforce development their industries need now and in the future for London.
Since its inception in December 2025, the interim Board, which is now preparing to hand over to a refreshed Built Environment Talent Board in the autumn, has:
- Shaped the London Skills Improvement Plan
- Supported the next wave of London Talent Pathways Commissioning
- Kicked off a Teacher Industry Exchange pilot set to deliver 90+ employer-teacher experiences AND
- An Industry Placements pilot set to deliver 100 placements
- Co-designed a Construction Skills Pilot – £2m fund for employer-led shorter courses to bridge gaps in the current skills offer launching this month (write to sectortalent@london.gov.uk to register your interest)
- Tested new approaches to careers
- Convened 60+ system stakeholders to develop our strategy to tackle barriers to delivering skills and employment outcomes
- Worked with the Construction Skills Mission Board on S106 and procurement
- Worked with more than 100 stakeholders to shape, test and build the work – local authorities, SMEs, providers, employment brokers and community group.
