Plasterboard manufacturer Siniat will shine a spotlight on improvements in traceability and product safety in the wake of new regulations as part of the Building the Future Conference.

Siniat will be sponsoring a Building Safety Panel during the event that will focus on the impact of regulations brought in to improve safety and accountability throughout the construction industry.

Sharing practical strategies for meeting regulatory requirements and looking at challenges and opportunities, the panel is part of a CPD event that aims to deliver insights to help those working across the construction industry.

A key focus will be the role of digital tools to support traceability throughout construction and the lifetime of a building. ‘Product passports’ have become a vital tool in supporting the golden thread that was introduced in support of the Building Safety Act, providing a quick and efficient means to access testing, performance, maintenance and installation data.

Nigel Morrey, Technical Director of Etex Building Performance, which includes Siniat and passive fire protection manufacturer Promat, will take a key role in the discussion as part of the panel – and will also focus on the role of passive fire protection in protecting the longevity of buildings.

He will be joined on the panel by Code for Construction Product Information Chief Executive Amanda Long, former Chief Construction Advisor Paul Morrell, and Head of Technical for the Association for Specialist Fire Protection Dr Andrew Taylor.

Nigel said: “Regulations have driven an incredible shift change in accountability in demonstrating that products are compliant, which has seen a raft of new technology introduced to evidence that.

“Much of this has been manufacturer-led as companies demonstrate their willingness to evidence compliance and show support for the Building Safety Act.

“Alongside this there has been an increased awareness of the need to build in safety that will protect a building through its lifetime, such as passive fire protection systems.

“While regulatory change always brings questions and challenges, the move to evidence performance standards has driven a new focus on research and testing to support the launch of new, ever more efficient products, and a greater depth of test data.”
