Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics were invited by McPhillips to tender for the seamless plaster acoustic ceiling installation within the brand-new welcome building at Chester Zoo, in the leisure sector.
The welcome building was delivered as a contemporary gateway facility, designed to enhance the overall visitor experience and complement the zoo’s ongoing development programme. The striking structure featured a modern architectural design with expansive glazing, creating a bright and open environment that connected seamlessly with the surrounding parkland. Positioned to maximise views, the welcome building incorporated a spacious outdoor terrace offering panoramic vistas across the zoo.
At the heart of the building was a high-quality restaurant and bar area, created to provide guests with a relaxed yet refined dining environment. Large windows and terrace access allowed diners to enjoy views of the landscaped setting, reinforcing the immersive experience.
The Solution:
Following extensive discussions between Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics and McPhillips Limited, it was agreed that 449m² of Rockfon Mono Acoustic would be installed across multiple areas of the welcome building.
The system was selected for its Class A sound absorption performance and its ability to effectively control reverberation in busy, high-traffic spaces, making it an ideal solution for the project’s acoustic requirements. In addition to its outstanding acoustic performance, Rockfon Mono Acoustic provided a seamless, monolithic finish that complemented the building’s contemporary interior design. Its classy and elegant appearance allowed it to integrate effortlessly into the architectural vision, maintaining a modern and refined aesthetic throughout the completed areas.
