The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) recently honoured Joe Cilia with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
In a LinkedIn post, Joe shared his gratitude: “I received an award from the BESA Group in recognition of the work I was involved with to produce the Fire Stopping of Service Penetrations – Best Practice in Design and Installation and the subsequent formation of the PFKG (Passive Fire Knowledge Group).
“But these things are never a solo effort, and in this case, it only happened because of the close collaboration with Will Pitt BEng (Hons) CEng FCIBSE, who co-chaired both projects, and Nick Mead, who should both really share in this accolade.
“I am, of course, delighted and honoured to have this work recognised in this way, especially as it was outside my comfort zone and core discipline when we embarked on the project.
“Many thanks to everyone who contributed – and to all those who continue to work with Will at the PFKG.”
Will Pitt added in his LinkedIn post: “In today’s busy world, we rarely get the chance to step out of our day-to-day activities and celebrate our achievements.
“So, it was all the more special to see my good friend Joe Cilia recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Before his retirement last year, Joe and I collaborated on various industry initiatives, most recently founding and chairing the PFKG. He is a true industry legend, and I have learnt a huge amount from him.
“Our industry needs more people like Joe, and I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award.”
